What Tutyr is

Tutyr is an AI homework tutor. It coaches you through assignments — asking questions, finding where you're stuck, and helping you work it out. It is a study tool, not a substitute for your teacher or your own work.

The deal

Tutoring is free. In exchange, the Tutyr compute daemon runs on your computer overnight — between 10pm and 6am — contributing idle processing power you aren't using. By installing Tutyr you agree to that exchange.

The overnight contribution is not optional. There is no setting to switch it off, because it is what you are paying with instead of money. If you don't want your computer contributing, uninstall Tutyr — that ends the arrangement. You may additionally opt in to contributing during the day for extra tokens; that part is optional, off by default, and can be switched off at any time.

That contributed capacity is intended to run cryptocurrency (Monero) mining, which is how Tutyr will fund the free tutoring. Mining is not active in the current version — today the daemon only schedules and measures your contribution. We'll update these terms and tell you in the app before that changes.

Tutyr is a cooperative

Students who contribute compute are members, not just users. Contributions are tracked and will be credited as COMPUTE tokens. Tokens are not yet issued, have no cash value today, and we make no promise about what they will be worth. Anyone who tells you otherwise is guessing.

Who can use it

Tutyr is for New York State high school students. If you're under 18, you need a parent or guardian to consent to your use of Tutyr and to the compute daemon running on the computer. Don't sign up with someone else's information.

Using it honestly

Use Tutyr to learn, not to cheat. Your school's academic integrity rules still apply, and passing off Tutyr's output as your own work may violate them. Don't try to break, overload, or misuse the service.

No guarantees about grades

We don't promise better grades, test scores, or any academic outcome. Tutyr can be wrong — it's an AI, and AI makes mistakes. Check its work, and ask your teacher when something matters.

Limitation of liability

Tutyr is provided "as is," without warranties of any kind. To the maximum extent allowed by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of Tutyr — including lost work, academic consequences, or effects on your computer. Our total liability is limited to what you paid us, which is nothing.

Changes and ending your account

We may update these terms as Tutyr develops; we'll post changes here. You can stop using Tutyr and delete your account at any time. We can suspend accounts that abuse the service.
